EGO
In the EGO pork supply chain, a large part of in primary production collected and digitalised data is exchanged via the information and communication system of the cooperatives marketing office between the stakeholders of the chain. A great amount of this information is forwarded to the ERP system of the abattoir. External suppliers of the chain, customers, do not have an access to the information system of the cooperative, because interfaces do not exist.
Information about the origin (identification) as well as quality of the animals and products are forwarded upwards in the chain, parallel to the product flow. In order to reach a unique quality standard a transmission of feeding, therapy and vaccination data takes place in primary production and to abattoir. Supplier and customer in the pork chain exchange business relevant information continuously in both directions, like data about planning, collection and delivery times, amounts and prices. In some cases information is discontinuously exchanged via phone, fax or internet (e.g. during or after a veterinarian control).
In primary production many information is documented due to the QS guidelines (climate/light, occupancy of stables, conditions of animal housing, feeding data, health status, hygiene measurements, veterinarian data, biological data and master data of farms). Beside the information about the sorting, hygiene and status of the product, the delivery dates as well as the origin of the animals is important for further processing. The information systems vary depending on the type of information. In particular on the stage of primary production, the phone is still often used in order to forward information. In future information exchange in written and digital format is aspired.
Further details on company-to-company information are specified for the following relationships in the tables below:
- Breeding organization – Multiplying – Piglet production
- Piglet Production – Finishing
- Finishing – Slaughterhouse
- Slaughterhouse – Processor
- Slaughterhouse/Processor – Retail
- Feed Producer – Cooperative/Farms
- Veterinarians – Farms
The collection, processing and dissemination of data between the stakeholders of the closed supply chain are directly or indirectly arranged by the chain-wide quality management. Continuously or discontinuously collected data are aggregated and categorised into product and process information. Important product information e.g. are the identification of farms, animal groups and carcass batches. The exchange of indications of origin through packing lists or via internet between the stakeholders guarantees the traceability. In addition, data referring to the quality of the products are collected and passed on to the following stage. Besides process information relevant to quality is documented compulsory. But this information is exchanged between the stages only in particular cases.
The following tables give an overview of the most important information on each production stage:
