VION Food Group - VWA

In agreement with VWA, The Ministry of LNV (Agriculture, Nature and Food Safety) has transferred responsibility for cattle transport to transporters in the past years. In 2004 (NRC, 11 September 2007), control of transporters with a good code of conduct became less strict. Before, a veterinarian had to control each transport with respect to pig health, suitability of the truck, and paper work. Since 2004, an exporter, which can be a farmer, a trader, or a transporter, only needs an agreement with VWA (Food and Foodstuffs Authority) reducing veterinarian control, like checking animals in a barn and controlling trucks after loading. Recent incidents with overloading and transport of pigs not declared fit for export may lead to stricter control.
