VION Food Group - VKI

From January 1, 2008, slaughterhouses have to collect information on so-called food chain information (VKI – EU rule 853). This information is in essence information on medicine (in feed or water) given to the pig to be slaughtered. This information needs to be supplied by farmers 24 hours in advance. Based on this information decisions have to be taken at slaughtering with respect to measures to assure food safety. Availability of such data is incorporated in IKB. Information should be available in IKB databases to reduce paperwork (seen also chapter 6).
