Strategic business unit (SBU)

A single business or collection of related businesses that can be planned separately from the rest of the company, with its own set of competitors and a manager who is responsible for strategic planning and profit performance. An SBU can be a company division, a product line within a division, or sometimes just a single product or brand. (Kotler & Keller, 2009; Kotler et al., 2008)
